Therapy typically involves a collaborative and confidential process between the therapist and the individual seeking support. Sessions are usually scheduled regularly, such as weekly or bi-weekly, and last around 50 minutes. The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals.
During sessions, individuals have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Therapists employ various therapeutic techniques and approaches tailored to the individual's specific concerns. This may include exploring past experiences, developing coping strategies, setting goals, and learning new ways to approach challenges.
The number of sessions needed varies from person to person. Some individuals may find short-term therapy beneficial for addressing specific issues, while others may engage in longer-term therapy for more complex or ongoing concerns. The ultimate goal of therapy is to promote personal growth, self-discovery, and positive change.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and the effectiveness of the experience often depends on the individual's willingness to engage openly and actively in the therapeutic relationship. It's essential to communicate openly with your therapist about your goals, progress, and any concerns you may have during the course of therapy.

In your first therapy session, you can expect an introduction and some initial paperwork, which may include privacy policies and consent forms. You'll have the opportunity to share background information about yourself, covering personal history, family dynamics, and current challenges. Your therapist will introduce themselves, providing insight into their therapeutic approach and qualifications, and you can ask any questions you may have. Together, you and your therapist will discuss your goals and expectations for therapy, laying the foundation for your future work together. The session may include an assessment of your mental and emotional well-being, exploring current symptoms, stressors, and coping mechanisms. Building trust is a key focus, allowing you to become familiar with your therapist's style and ensuring a comfortable therapeutic relationship. Practical logistics, such as scheduling and fees, will also be discussed, providing clarity about the details of your therapeutic journey. Remember, the first session is a starting point for your collaborative work, and you can gradually delve into more specific topics in subsequent sessions as your comfort and trust grow.
